Cape Reinga is located over 100 km north of Kaitaia. In Māori tradition, it is the sacred leaping-off place for spirits departing to the underworld.

Entry to the reserve is free. It attracts an estimated 500,000 visitors annually. The site is accessible year-round, but summer offers the most consistent weather.

Remember that eating, drinking, or smoking near the lighthouse is strictly prohibited. Stay on the marked walking tracks to protect native flora and respect the sacred grounds.
